Travel Snapshot – Sunset at Port Dickson, Malaysia
I love sunset. I have been searching, waiting and shooting sunset photos all these years. Sun sets every evening. It could be setting into sea, mountains or clouds. I love sun setting at seaside most as the dramatic colours of its skylight are all reflected onto the sea and they are set apart by just a straight horizon line.
All travel destination that I visit have their own sunset with different foreground. I went to Port Dickson last weekend, a popular tourist town, 90km in the south of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. There are many fishing villages in the town along the seasides. I was in one of them having my dinner in a seafood restaurant when the sun set in front of me. Quickly grab my camera and fired a number of shots to capture this beautiful sunset. I love it. 🙂
Some EXIF info: Photo taken with my Nikon D7000 and Nikkor 18-105mm zoom lens. Shutter speed 1/40s and Aperture F5.3. Focus distance was set to 75mm. ISO 3200. Shade White Balance preset. No flash fired and -0.3 exposure compensated with Matrix metering.
To capture the rich orange and red tone of the skylight, we can first manually set our camera’s White Balance to Shade Preset. Then we can wait for a better skylight when the sun set and shoot. Check the histogram and compensate the exposure to get a perfectly exposed skylight while leaving foreground under exposed for some Silhouette effect.
Lastly, you have to make sure to have a steady hand for slower shutter speed, or use a faster lens of either f2.8 or f1.8, or upgrade your DSLR to Nikon D7000 with better high ISO performance! – Travel Feeder, your ultimate travel photo blog
