Travel challenge – How to get the most out of one travel?
One of the most challenging part of my self-guided travel is to plan my travel itinerary in order to get maximum satisfaction out of my limited traveling time. My traveling period is always too short due to my business commitment. Whenever I travel, I have to face the facts that only limited time is allowed to satisfy myself as a travel addict. How did I overcome the challenge by squeezing more quality contents from my travel?
The challenge of time shortage for visiting a travel destination actually comes from the travel destination itself. For such a popular travel destination, it has always plenty of travel attractions on offer. So travelers have to either stay more days or come back again next time to explore them all. More time is even needed if I wish to explore further into the local community and their local foods.
To strive a balance between time and value of my travel, what I would do when planning the itinerary for short period like 3 days in a city? Here are 5 essential element to be included in my itinerary:
- Decide which landmarks of the destination that I’m dying to visit to. Pick one for my 1st day visit (I chose Eiffel Tower when I was in Paris) and spend more time to explore it to the fullest possible;
- Engage a day trip on the 2nd day to go round the city. This can briefly give you an idea on the overall travel sites of the city;
- Spend at least half a day to sit back, relax at either a cafe, park or square. So I could enjoy the environment and people watching;
- Go off the beaten track to some non touristic area. Only that I could experience what average tourists don’t, and
- Watch around and try some of the local street food. There are unique foods in each city and can’t be found or not as good in any other part of the world.
With these carefully drafted travel itinerary, even though I couldn’t cover all the travel attractions in one city in such a short period, I could still enjoy my trip and gain so much experience from the trip which would not be possible with packaged traveling.
