Travel By Photo – Eumundi Market
Eumundi Market perhaps is the most travelers-sought-after open market in Sunshine Coast, Northen region of Queensland, Australia. Located 20KM West of the famous tourist spot of Noosa Heads, Eumundi market is also the local Australian favorite, opens only every Wednesday and Saturday from 6.30am until 2.30pm. Parkside Market, Central Market, Pavilion Market are among those smaller markets that make up the Eumundi Market. We heard of this place while we were on our vacation at Sunshine Coast and we decided to pay her a visit. This is the fascinating part of Self-travelling. We chose where we wanted to go and what to do with the car we rented. Travel Tips: The best way to explore the real beauty of Australian hinterland is to rent a car as the travel distances between tourist attractions are quite far apart.
It was Saturday morning when we got to Eumundi Market. There are 500 plus stalls in the market, scattered between those old tall trees. Wide shady walkways make strolling among the stalls and old quirky buildings a pleasant experience. A plethora of all things locally handmade, the market sells everything from delicately constructed craft to organically grown products. Their policy of make it, bake it, design it, sew it or grow it, ensures that they select the very best of items and crafts. We were excited to see so many artistic crafts selling there and only there, such as cloths, painting, long horn, statue, wood carving, cement fibre artifact and off course the local favorite, fudge, ginger beer, full flavours of Macadamia nuts and lots more. To my surprise, there was a stall selling Quan Ying statue as well!
We took a break having coffee at one of the stall while listening to music played by some local young student which was adorable! Before we left Eumundi market, we couldn’t resist but have bought some souvenirs back. But please bear in mind, as another Travel Tips: Don’t ever think of bargaining for cheaper price with those stall owner cum designer! For those art piece or craft designer, they will find it humiliating!
We left Eumundi market at 12.00 noon and they were still many visitors hanging there. While we were on our way back to Noosa Head, one question stroke our mind repeatedly, ‘How do they make a living by only doing business 2 days a week?’ ‘Why are we still working 7 days a week?’ – Travel Feeder.
I’m really jealous of you now! I’ve always wanted to go to Australia! One of my top dream destinations. What has stopped me? Well, if I go to the other end of the globe (as it is from Sweden) I wanna have plenty of time and plenty of money…. Obviously, it has been a lack of those so far, but one day….. *dreaming*

- August 17, 2008I love Eumundi markets. They are the best in all of Australia for sure. The selection is huge and one needs nearly two days to see everything.
