Top 5 Reasons why tourists are traveling to Australia and New Zealand today
When I was wandering in Putra World Trade Center of Kuala Lumpur, the venue of this year MATTA fair (Annual Malaysian Travel Exhibition) last weekend, trying to get some ideas on Europe Tour itinerary, I noticed a trend. Apart from those regular travel packages to China and Indo-China, the next popular travel destinations with the most packages on offer are both Australia and New Zealand. Why?
We all know what tourists attractions that Australia and New Zealand are offering. No doubt there are hundreds of travel sites that every avid traveler must visit before die. Put aside this, what are the reasons more and more travelers are going there? Here are the shorlisted top 5:
- The nearest western countries from South East Asia. Avid travelers from South East Asia are always seeking their next travel destination from nearest to furthest. Most of them have traveled to other parts of Asia especially those hot spots like China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore. The next destinations for them off course would be those English speaking countries or western countries, to experience a totally different cultures from their home. The nearest western countries in terms of distance from Asia would be either Australia or New Zealand.
- The cheapest among western countries. Another reason why avid travelers choose Australia or New Zealand is its lower currency exchange rate if compared with either EURO or US Dollars. Not to mention British Pound Sterling. Currently 1EURO equals to AUD1.50 and NZD2.00! Spending for meal in Europe needs RM15.00 while only RM10 in Australia or RM8 in New Zealand. Since most travelers from Asia are budget conscious and most countries in Asia are developing countries, cheaper option will get better response. Australia package holidays are therefore becoming more popular among Asian nowadays
- The cleanest and least polluted developed countries. With its immense green areas occupying the majority of its land area, Australia and New Zealand are no doubt the least polluted developed countries in the world. It’s then the safest countries to visit without major issues on virus spreads and other health issues. Autralian and New Zealand dairy products are the safest to consume as their cows are feed with real grass not recycled meat! Not only that, there are among the safest countries to travel as the local people there are less polluted also! 🙂
- The best Winter getaway destination for Northern countries. Not only Asian travelers, tourists from other Northern Western countries are coming to Australia and New Zealand during Winter to escape the freezing cold weather. While all other developed countries are facing snow storm in the Winter in Northern hemisphere, Australia and New Zealand are having warm weather and bright sun as their Summer!
- The most varieties of holiday packages. Vacation traveling to Australia or having holiday in New Zealand are the most exciting experience with its vast choices of travel packages covering various Australian destinations from tropical regions of Queensland, desert region of Darwin, to ski vacation of New South Wales!
With all these 5 reasons, there are certainly no other excuses for budget travelers like me to stop from visiting Australia and New Zealand. It is always interesting to read of other perspectives on why someone should visit Australia (and NZ). I would always encourage those visiting from SE Asia to try to get out of the Australian cities and into the wide open spaces of rural Australia. They are a little more difficult to get to but worth the effort for the sharp contrast to the SE Asian countries.

I like Australia and NZ. So far, have travelled to several major cities in both countries. But travelling to Australia these days isn’t cheap as the exchange rate has gone up drastically.

- June 15, 2010I’d add to that another five reasons why tourists travel to Australia and New Zealand:
1. The people are laid back and friendly making travelling through easy and simple.
2. The landscapes are absolutely stunning with sweeping unpopulated expanses at every turn.
3. Many tours such as the are completely free and don’t come with any pressure to buy.
4. Safety amongst fellow travellers as well as with locals is high.
5. Social eating and drinking is encouraged making the chances of meeting new friends along your way higher.
Hope that helps you avid travellers out there!
