My Perfect Travel Camera – Nikon D7000 DSLR is Finally Launched!

Today, the 15th of September, 2010 is the big day for me! Today is the birthday of my dream travel companion, my ‘going-to-be’ workhorse, the new 16MP DX-format Nikon D7000 DSLR! After nearly 2 years of owning my beloved Nikon D60, I have finally found the Nikon D7000 as the perfect camera for my future travel. It is launched today in Europe and I’m going to get it as my new workhorse, to replace my slightly dated but still great Nikon D60. (I’m not complaining the great photo quality of D60. I captured great photos in Europe with only it. However I need some advanced features and more shooting flexibility and speed which the entry leveled D60 could not provide.)

I’m not a tech savvy and this is not a tech blog. But this date is so important to me as I’ve been looking and waiting for one perfect DSLR camera for my travel photography. (Why DSLR is good for travel?). Absolutely not to my disappointment but with lots of surprises instead, Nikon has officially launched the Nikon D7000 today with more than just a replacement of Nikon D90 (the rumors referred it as a replacement of D90 before). Not really announced its retail price in Malaysia, I will definitely pre-order one in one of these days after reading its specifications earlier today from Nikon Website. 16MP, magnesium-alloy body, dual SD card slot, Full HD Video shooting, 6FramePerSecond, shooting mode dial, 39 focus points, 2k pixel RGB sensor, 150k shutter test, and more. It has the body which is more compact and lighter than Nikon D300s but is packed with features that outshine even the ‘Top of the DX range’ D300s! What can I expect? I’m going to grab 1! 🙂

Here are some of the photos of Nikon D7000 and it is soooo beautiful…

Technology advancement is so fast nowadays that the life cycle of digital camera basically could not last for more than 2 years. This is why camera manufacturers are launching new products and replacement every 2 years. Unlike the era of film photography where same film SLR could still be used to produce the same excellent photos with same resolution after 10 or 20 years. This is the cruelest fact in digital photography. Megapixels count and noise reduction technologies do matter. Nikon D1 DSLR with 2.7MP was launched 10 years ago for over USD5,000! But do you think you still want to use it now? I doubt so… 🙂
