Europe Hotels review – PLUS Berlin Hostel and Hotel
No matter how nice or bad is the past review, sometimes you have to experience it yourself to give you the whole part of the story.
Not for this hotel that I stayed in Berlin. Of course I did not stay there before. I booked it basing on the photos and reviews published on the booking website online. It’s always easy to judge things after the fact. After staying there for a couple of nights, I can confirm that this is a very nice hotel to stay in Berlin, just like what others mentioned on Booking.com website.
The name of the hotel is PLUS Berlin hostel and hotel.
The description provided by hotel says it all, “This modern 3-star hotel and hostel in Berlin’s trendy Friedrichshain district is located opposite Warschauer Strasse Train Station. It features an Italian restaurant, indoor pool, and free Wi-Fi. The Plus Berlin is located in a historic school building. It provides air-conditioned rooms with a flat-screen TV, bathroom, and large lockers. Bed linen is provided. The O2 Arena is a 5-minute walk from Berlin’s Plus hotel and hostel. Alexanderplatz is a 6-minute train ride away. A varied breakfast buffet is available each morning. Guests can enjoy pizza and pasta in the modern restaurant or relax with a drink in the bar and café. Guests can use the Plus Berlin’s sauna on request. A games room offers darts and a billiard table.”
Eventhough it is located behind the Warschauer Strasse Train Station, it is quite tricky to locate it for the first time if you don’t know the way. However, once you found it, you realise it can actually be reached by a few ways. There is even a shortcut staircase at the far end of the station to get up to the train station!
The reception is right in front of you once you step into the hostel. Six clocks are displaying 6 different time zones across the world.
A view at the lobby to the left of the reception.
The lobby to the right of the reception.
There are left and right wings of the building where Bed and Breakfast are located at one side and hotel rooms are located at the other, with different elevators access as seen from the above photos. A small garden separating the two.
One facility not being mentioned in the above description is the launderette service. It has about 10 coin-operated washing machines and dryers for guests to use. Washing powder can be bought from the reception. It is very convenient for travelers such as us who have traveled to other parts of Europe for quite some days before Berlin and need to do some laundry.
The room we stayed (Unfortunately I didn’t capture any photos of the room 🙁 ) is big, nice and clean, with sizable bathroom. Most importantly, it is great value for the money we paid (it is slightly more expensive now than a year ago when we booked but still good value).
What’s my verdict?
Location: Great √ √ √ √
Room conditions: Great √ √ √ √
Facilities: Excellent √√ √ √ √
Accessability: Great √ √ √ √
Value for money: Excellent √ √ √ √
Overall Travel Score : 88%
Verdict: The only downside of this hotel is its location that slightly away from the downtown, if you planning to walk around. Otherwise, train station is just next door to get around the city center and airport easily.
This is another great example of usefulness of reading past reviews from guests before booking your accommodations! 🙂 – Travel Feeder, your ultimate travel photo blog
