If you are planning a holiday to either China or Japan, and to bring along your tablets but not netbook, you will need one of these gadgets; Many of the star-rated hotels in China and Japan have WiFi available in lobby but only wired internet available in the hotel rooms. This is one of the reasons why I brought along my Acer netbook when I traveled to Beijing and Japan. With its built in LAN port, netbook can act as a WiFi hotspot for my iPhone.
I’m going to bring along my iPad to my upcoming Japan travel next month, and of course, this D-Link Mobile Companion… 🙂 – Travel Feeder, your ultimate travel photo blog
I think this is a handy tool for any traveller. Something like would be ideal for those carrying devices that require wireless. Wonderful device and thank you for mentioning it.
- October 8, 2012How do you set up a password for it so that only I can access the wifi and not the others? I’m planning a holiday in Japan too, and thank goodness for your article that I know now I can have access to the internet in my hotel room.
- October 12, 2012@ Modo,
You just need to connect it to your PC for one time to access to the router via http address stated in the quick setup guide with its default username and password. Then set your wifi passcode and it’s done! This is a one-off thing so you just need to plug it with the LAN cable provided by your hotel room in future, choose the wifi network appeared in your iphone or ipad, key in the wifi password you just set and you are ready to surf net!!
Hope that helps.
