Celebrating Christmas and New Year on your travel

Christmas is coming! For those travelers who would be on the go this festive season, celebrating Christmas and New Year abroad is surely something fascinating to include in our itinerary. This reminds me of our group of 5 backpackers preparing our roast turkey in our B&B and spent our Christmas eve drinking bottles after bottles in London many years ago, which is still one of my best Christmas celebration in memory.

On the same 2 days of each year, Christmas and New Year day are celebrated by all people around the world. Could they come from Europe, America, Asia or Australia, or may have different ways to commemorate these days, but the parties they are throwing in, gathering they are putting up, or the Christmas carols they are singing, all are meant for rejoicing our lives. That said, away from our homes during this festive season may seems lonely, but being able to enjoy this festive season in different countries is something we as travelers should be blessing in disguise.

There are many different ways to celebrate Christmas and New Year, based on the local culture of each country in the world. Western families love to spend their silent nights with their families, exchanging gifts and singing carols, while Asian people enjoy partying on the eves, shopping at days and taking photos with season’s decorations. I love to travel to different countries during this festive season to experience the local atmosphere. If you are vacationing in the Northern hemisphere, sitting besides the fire place, watching snow falling and hoping for Santa clause popping in is surely a warming experience. If you are spending holidays in countries of Southern continents such as Australia and South Africa, sunbathing on the sunny beach at day and join the bar hopping at night would be something hot and steamy.

For me, no celebration of this festive season would complete without drinking a few glasses of wine together with your loved ones. Choosing from your private wine collection or to order a few for your night parties is another great experience, especially in countries where wines are widely available such as Europe and Australia.
