Barcelona Travel tips – Barcelona Metro underground trains
Barcelona is a huge city, just like any other capital city in Europe such as London or Paris. However, a good news to travelers come to visit the city, most of its highly frequented tourists attractions are quite concentrated in the city central, unless you really wish to go off the beaten track into Barcelona city outskirt. In that context, public transport provided by TMB (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona) in Barcelona is very convenient and sufficient for general visitors. Metro is one of the most convenient and fast way to commute about the city and I managed to travel around Barcelona city center by only this Barcelona Metro underground train service on my Europe tour MKII.
Metro stations can be recognized by spotting the big red M logo like the one shown in the above photo. Metro extensive railway network serves the Barcelona city central with underground trains and suburbs with over ground trains. It consists of 8 lines covering 141 stations around the city center covering a total network of 102.6km in length. Operating hours on Weekdays (Monday to Thursday) and public holidays is from 5.00 am to 12.00 midnight. However, on Fridays and eves of public holidays, it extends to 2.00 am.

Take a look at the above fare table I captured a year ago in one of the station (price has been increased slighly since then). Metro Train tickets costs 2.00€ per trip regardless the number of line changing. The most easiest and cheapest option is to get a T-10 travel card which costs only 9.25€, or less than 1€ per trip (It cost only 8.25€ a year ago when I was there). I traveled to Park Guell, Arc de Triomp, Barceloneta, La Rambla, Passeig de Gracia, Catalunya, and Barcelona airport all by using the Metro network. Eventhough Barcelona city centre is quite walkaway but the time saved by taking Metro could give me some leisure to stay a bit longer on the beach, reading some of my story books in a cafe, or tasting a few more Tapas!
