5 Unusual Things to Do on a Rainy Day on the Sunshine Coast

Guest Post

Unfortunately, the lovely Sunny Coast isn’t actually sunny every single day of the year (wouldn’t that be nice?). On occasions it does actually rain. The nice part is that a rainy day forces you to get out and try some new places that you may have never realised were just around the corner. While nothing runs those kids ragged quite like the beach with its salty water and fresh air, there are a couple of other places that have a pretty good crack at it. So next time those raindrops are falling on your head go and experience some of these little treasures.

Top Shots Fun Park
This place rocks! There are a number of rainy weather options (mini golf, rock climbing and arcade games) and if the rain stops while you are visiting then you can try some of the other fun stuff too. Entry is free! You just pay by activity and honestly, compared to some theme parks the prices are actually pretty low. Check the Top Shots Fun Park’s official website for details of all activities and pricing.

Laserzone
Get your game pants on. This one is a ripper! If you don’t know what laser tag is imagine a video game that has come to life. Instead of controlling everything with a remote control you are actually in it. Think paint ball without the pain. Kids from 6 can play and adults are also able to participate. You can play on your own or in teams. Each mission is 12 mins long plus there is a 4 min briefing before each one. You can buy packages with a number of missions included plus arcade tokens for when you are done with the active stuff and need a wee rest. A fun day out for the family.

Panny’s Chocolate Factory/The Ginger Factory
Nom nom nom. Just about everyone likes chocolate. And if you don’t that’s OK, go to the Ginger Factory next door. This lovely little establishment has gorgeous handmade Belgian chocolates that simply melt in your mouth. And it’s not just nice perfect little round chocolates. On display you will find chocolate shoes, animals and houses. Kids and grown ups alike will get a little bit of wow out of this one. When you are done pop next door to the Ginger Factory and take a ride on the Overboard Boat. The kids will love it.

Visit the Toy Library
Wow, a toy library! How cool is this idea?! Many of the council libraries also have a toy borrowing section. The beauty of this concept is that you don’t have to go out and buy more plastic that you have nowhere to store once your kids are bored with the million toys they have. Not all libraries have toy libraries and those that do aren’t necessarily available all day so check the Sunshine Coast council website for more details.

Go Bowling!

Let's Go Bowling

So this one isn’t necessarily unusual, it has been around for years, but I think it is a bit unusual for people to think of it as an option these days. Why has it become that way? I have no idea and I’m not going to bore you with a bunch of made up reasons. Just go. It’s a fun day out with or without kids. You can have a hot dog and a beer (soft drink for the kiddies) and spend the day laughing at how bad you are. Not to mention you get to wear some funky bowling shoes!
