Top 5 bad travel habits to break in 2014
Year 2013 has just passed. We are thinking of a new set of new year resolution to accomplish in the next 12 months. But hang on! We could have set various travel wishes and managed to accomplish all of them each year, but there are things that we still carry forward year by year, which is the bad travel habits! The real joy of travel could be compromised by bad habits, even though we realized our dreams to visit cities after cities.
So let’s set reciprocal wishes to avoid what we don’t want, for the coming 12 months in Year 2014.
Here are the top 5 bad travel habits to break in Year 2014.
Stop relying on IT gadgets
This is the toughest one. Smartphones, tablets or netbooks are the most common IT gadgets travelers love to bring along travels in this IT era. Sadly but truly, travelers now spend too much time on them. They rely IT gadgets to do too many things on travels.
Even though it is convenient to book flight tickets, trains tickets or even museum tickets online, wouldn’t it be more fun to actually queue up, check with the ticket booths on trains schedule, and buy the train tickets with local currency?
For the tech savvy, they even subscribe data roaming, and make their tablets or smartphones into a GPS to bring them to tourist spots! What they would miss out on are definitely the fun of asking for direction and interaction with local people. Not to mention how much time they spent on Facebook or Instagram with friends back home instead of making new friends in youth hostels.
Under estimate the distance shown on map
The next bad travel habits to break in 2014 would be our confidence! I have this bad habit of being over confident on our fitness. We do read maps, but always think the next tourist spot is too near to take a cab or subway. At the end of the day, we walked too long, and spend too much time to reach and only realized we have just missed the best timing for sunset scene!
The worst experience I had was in Kyoto when I thought it was near to walk from Sanjusangendo to Geon, based on the map I had, but it was actually not.
Impulsive buying
You may think this is one of those bad travel habits that only limit to ladies. Not at all! At least this is my problem too. I’m always too attracted by beautiful things being sold in markets or shopping malls and spent a lot of money to buy somethings that I don’t need them, or even keep them at home without noticing their existence! This is called impulsive buying.
Packing unnecessary stuffs that we thought we need
The top packing tips for travel is to pack at least as possible. Lugging your heavy bags around with unnecessary things inside is much more painful than buying them abroad when only you need!
Taking too many photos
This is one of those bad travel habits that couldn’t have come out from me. Being a travel photography hobbyist, I took a lot of photos on travel. That said, I also missed the fun of admiring scenes or enjoying live shows. Someone did mention that you can have a deeper memory on something when you fully focus them with your eyes and mind, rather than shooting photos of them and try to recall them later on your computer screens.
I actually took lesser photos especially food images on my recent travels. And I hope I could take even lesser on my future travels. Off course, I will still take photos of those phenomena scenes found abroad, but only after admiring them with my naked eyes!
Let’s hope these top 5 bad travel habits could be broken in this year of 2014. HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014 !! – Travel Feeder, your travel photo guide blog
