First ever LEGO STAR WARS Miniland death Star Model display launched at LEGOLAND Malaysia
NUSAJAYA, 25th July 2013 – Miniland at LEGOLAND® Malaysia today geared up for its new role as gateway to a parallel universe. The family theme park unveiled the LEGO Star Wars Miniland Death Star model display that will open to public on Friday 26th July 2013 in a press conference this morning.
Master Model Builders from LEGOLAND built the LEGO model display using more than 750,000 LEGO bricks and ten thousand special glow-in-the dark tiles. It is the first time that a LEGO Death Star model of this scale has been constructed, making it the largest in the world.
The LEGO Star Wars™ Miniland Death Star model display weighs almost 800 kilograms and reaches six metres in height. Measuring over two metres wide, the design and building process took almost four months to complete. Eight model builders from LEGOLAND Malaysia and another team from LEGOLAND California worked to complete the model display located at Miniland.
“We are extremely proud to be the first LEGOLAND Park to house this unique model. The LEGO® Star Wars™ Miniland Death Star model display will feature prominently in the Park. Miniland is known as the ‘heart’ of all LEGOLAND Parks. We are committed to consistently enhancing our guest experience and we are confident that this latest interactive model display will be a hit with families,” said Siegfried Boerst, General Manager LEGOLAND Malaysia.
He also added that the theme park will be holding its first LEGO Star Wars™ Days event from the 16th to 18th August 2013. Guests will be able to participate in activities ranging from mystery mural building to special movie screenings. There will also be a Star Wars™ Light Saber performance and ‘training’ session held during this period.
Miniland at LEGOLAND Malaysia is dedicated to Asia and the models are built using approximately a 1:20 scale. More than 30 million LEGO bricks have been used to create the area. The LEGO Star Wars™ Miniland Death Star model display will be the second fantasy cluster after the ‘Pirate’ cluster.
The LEGO Star Wars™ Miniland Death Star model display will be accompanied by a selection of other LEGO Star Wars ™ models depicting famous scenes from the series such as the duel between Obi- Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader.
A temporary retail store will also be setup in Miniland beginning 9th August 2013 in conjunction with the new launch. It will be dedicated to selling LEGO Star Wars™ products. – Travel Feeder
