Experience Los Angeles Like A Movie Star
The world class city of Los Angeles
An estimated 48 million people visited Los Angeles last year, but how many of them got to experience La La Land like a movie star? Living it up like the Hollywood Elite is a unique way to experience this world-class city. You can rub elbows with the rich and famous, capture unbelievable moments to share with your Instagram followers, and enjoy the life of a movie star. Even if it’s only for one day, here’s how to experience LA like a movie star.

Stay at the iconic Chateau Marmont
For a touch of Old Hollywood glamour, book a room at the Chateau Marmont. Centrally located on the Sunset Strip, “the Chateau” (as it’s known by the Angelinos) is a breathtaking castle rising unexpectedly into the Hollywood Hills. But this isn’t just some kitschy tourist attraction. Current celebrities, like Leonardo DiCaprio and Keanu Reeves, regularly frequent the Chateau. And with your booking, you become one of the group. There are no velvet ropes here; once you check in, you receive the same red carpet treatment as the celebrities surrounding you.
Enjoy Brunch on Melrose
Just one mile south of the Chateau, you’ll find Melrose Avenue. Melrose is the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely brunch with the stars. Crossroads Kitchen offers seasonal cuisine with locally-sourced ingredients. While star sightings aren’t guaranteed, it would certainly be a slow day at this hip local spot if you didn’t see someone you recognize from film, TV, or music while brunching. Even Jay Z and Bey eat at Crossroads when they’re in town.
A word of caution: If you’re living like a movie star for the day, don’t go ask for a selfie or an autograph. Interrupting someone’s meal on Melrose is a faux pas only a tourist would make.
Visit “The Set”
Visiting a working film set is perhaps the single most unique LA experience available to tourists. Warner Brothers and Universal Studios both offer exceptional tours of real film sets. These sets are regularly redressed and used in multiple projects. You can see single-room sets on individual stages. And the studio backlots contain facades of entire city blocks so you can be in New York City one minute, Paris the next, and the famous Bates Motel shortly after. If you’re lucky, you may even see a “hot set” (an active set where filming is in process) during your visit.
See a Film on the Big Screen
Your movie star day in Los Angeles isn’t complete without seeing a film. And yes, while you’re in LA, it’s a “film”, never a “movie”. Although “movie star” is still an acceptable term for some reason. The ArcLight Hollywood on Sunset is the current go-to cinema for the trendy set. But if you’re looking for a classic Golden Age of Hollywood movie-going experience, try the TCL Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. The Chinese Theatre is where you’ll find the famous handprints and footprints from movie stars past and present.
Don’t forget to stop by the bar at the Chateau for a nightcap with the stars before heading back to your room. Then take one last look at the city lights and the Hollywood Hills before crawling into your luxurious bed.
