Carlsberg City and its visitor centre in Copenhagen
I drink Carlsberg beer. Many of love Carlsberg and most of us had Carlsberg beer before, or at least heard of it. Visiting Carlsberg city in Copenhagen is considered a pilgrimage for me.
On my travel to Copenhagen a couple of years ago, I walked for 1 hour just to get to the Carlsberg city in Enghave which is 2 km away from the Central station. Of course you can take a train from central station to Enghave station or by bus no. 18 or 26 from downtown Copenhagen for just twenty minutes. I would prefer to walk on my travel so I can see more things around the city.
Once you reach Enghave station, head north for about 5 minutes to the NY Carlsber Vej road.
From there you can see the signboard and lead you to various attractions of the city. I’m sharing here my visit to the visitor center, namely the Visit Carlsberg.
No visit to Carlsberg city would complete without paying a visit to Visit Carlsberg, the visitor centre located at 11 Gamle Carlsberg Vej, 2500 Valby, Denmark at the location of the first Carlsberg Brewery.
The 10.000 m² Visit Carlsberg is located within the buildings of the original brewery founded in 1847 by J.C.Jacobsen. Within the visitors Centre is also the Jacobsen House Brewery, a micro brewery creating the Jacobsen speciality range of hand-crafted beers.
Buy the entrance ticket and enjoy your self-guided tour to various parts of the centre. You are lucky to have read this post as I will take you through the visitor centre by my travel photos taken in there to learn the historic brewery and how Carlsberg successfully went from local brewery to global power-brand.

5. Old Brewhouse
The founder of Carlsberg, J.C. Jacobsen.
The son, Carl Jacobsen.
The founders of Carlsberg await you in the historic barley storage area. Explore the ground floor for the whole history of Carlsberg beer and the Carlsberg old brewery or the Carlsberg City now.
On the first floor you can explore the aisles of the world’s largest beer collection before entering the original Carlsberg brewhouse.
The story of the bottle collection began in 1968 when a Danish engineer started collecting unopened beer bottles from every corner of the world.
The collection now has reached 22,001 bottles. A thorough count which lasted one whole day was conducted on October the 13th, 2006, and the final number reached 16.384. Based on this information Guinness World Records issued in February 2007 a certificate confirming that this it is the largest collection of beer bottles in the world.
You can see all the variants of Carlsberg beers being sold or have been sold in all parts of the world. Try searching for your home country’s bottles!
6. Jacobsen Brewhouse & bar
Jacobsen Brewhouse & Bar is located on the 1st. floor of the renovated Old Carlsberg warehouse dating back to 1878, and it is an integrated part of the Jacobsen Brewhouse.
During your visit you will be able to enjoy the view of our 3 copper vats, and sometimes smell the enticing and unmistakable aroma of hobs and barley from the brewery.
While in the bar area you will also be able to watch the filling, crowning and packing of the Jacobsen bottling line which is located right beneath the bar.
Watch video on how the bartenders pour your lager from the draughts in my earlier post.
The bar in the heart of the brewhouse also serves traditional Danish lunch as well as various sandwiches and snacks.
7. Green House
Remember to pop by the green house located in J.C. Jacobsen’s garden next to his villa. See the plans for the future Carlsberg city and pet the horses grazing in the green meadows in the corner of J.C. Jacobsen’s romantic garden.

Images on the interesting building architecture in and around Carlsberg City.
Over the next 15 to 20 years, Carlsberg City will be urbanised and rebuild based on the plan of the Danish architectural firm Entasis. A total of 600.000 square meters will be developed. The development will be split, and approximately 45-60 pct. will be residential – this corresponds to a total of 3.000 homes. The remaining square meters will be occupied by businesses, retailers, culture and sport facilities, and institutions. The first stage includes establishing an 82.000 square meters campus for the 10.000 students attending the University College Copenhagen. The campus will also include offices, retailers and private apartments, and it will also feature a new railway station – ‘Carlsberg Station’.
