Travel snapshots of the miniature Dolhareubangs of Jeju
Let’s see which souvenir is best to get in Korea. Apart from Korean dolls or cosmetic products, dolhareubang resembled dolls or keychains are perhaps the next best thing to buy in Korea. Though you may still find them in some other places of Korea, miniature dolhareubangs, or harubangs, are widely available as souvenirs in everywhere of Jeju Island, the origin island.
Dolhareubangs, or grandfather stones, are actually volcanic stone carved statues found everywhere on Jeju Island. Normally comes in a pair, they are considered to be gods offering both protection and fertility and were placed outside of gates for protection against demons travelling between realities.
I did buy some for myself and they are available in various sizes with different creative and cute poses and costumes. Instead of 2 grandfathers, they could be a grand couples. Here are some snapshots of those we bought, in various sizes.
This is miniature dolhareubangs resembling the original pose and style.
A symbolic figure representing Jeju Island, Dolhareubangs are something not to be missed to hold or hug when you re in Jeju. If they are too huge to bring back home, miniature dolhareubangs in various forms could be the best alternative. Make sure you get some home! – Travel Feeder.
Would definitely buy one when I get the chance to go to Korea! 🙂
