Happy Deepavali and photos of the art of Rangoli
Happy Deepavali to fellow Hindu who celebrates Diwali festival in various parts of the world! Diwali or Deepavali festival is the most important festival for Hindus which symbolises the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair. It is as significant as the Hari Raya Aidilfitri (Break Fast Festival) of Muslim or the Lunar New Year of Chinese.
Deepavali is considered the brightest and happiest day of all for Hindus when they decorate their homes with flowers and floors with the art of Rangoli. What I’m sharing here is one of the photos of the art of Rangoli, created by local Hindu in Kuala Lumpur. It reminds me of the “Madonna and Son” street painting which had our jaws dropped in Florence.
Rangoli is a folk art originating from India where non permanent pictures and patterns are created on the floor in living rooms or courtyards. They are carefully prepared using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, colored sand or flower petals, which can be cleared away easily after the festival.
If opportunity comes to me, I would love to visit in person to India to experience this traditional festival with the local people and learn how they create this awesome floor art of Rangoli! – Travel Feeder
