Schools LEGO Building contest concluded with two winning teams from Singapore
After two weeks of public voting, with over 18,169 voters, the Schools LEGO® Building contest has concluded. Voters chose their favourite LEGO National icons designed by the budding model builders. The winning teams from Singapore are Clementi Primary School (Category B: 6 – 10 yr olds), and Lianhua Primary School (Category C: 11-14 yr olds). Iconic creations submitted by students for this competition included Changi Airport, the Singapore Flyer, and a Singapore Kopitiam. The contest was organised by LEGOLAND® Malaysia. The Park will open to the public on 15th September 2012.
“We’re always looking for the next generation of LEGOLAND® model builders and this contest clearly illustrates the great potential and high calibre of work students are capable of,” said Siegfried Boerst.
He added: “I am delighted with the overwhelming response from students and teachers who took part as well as members of the public who voted. I would like to congratulate the winning schools and all those who participated for their impressive efforts. LEGO® bricks are a great tool to encourage thinking out of the box and I hope children will continue to draw inspiration from the world around them.”
Contest Background
The LEGO® building contest had students from Malaysia and Singapore participating in two rounds. In Round 1, groups of students were asked to build what they felt were national icons of their country.
Finalists were selected by a panel of judges from LEGOLAND® consisting of master model builders and senior management. The judging criteria included show of skill, creativity, imagination, observation techniques and complexity.
In Round 2, the selected finalist teams and their designs were uploaded to a dedicated section on the Park’s official website. Over a period of two weeks, the contest saw over 18,169 individuals from the public voting for their favourite design. With three contest categories, a winner was selected for each category.
The winning teams were picked based on the designs with the highest number of votes per contest category. Members from the winning teams have been awarded passes to visit LEGOLAND® Malaysia. Two lucky schools also received invitations to the Park for a sneak preview.
LEGOLAND® has seven unique themed areas developed especially for children. Each area promotes fun in learning and combines the experience with interactive features.
