First LEGOLAND® PARK in Asia reveals 76 acres of theme park fun on first day of public opening
On 15 September, Asia’s first LEGOLAND® Park is welcoming the public to enjoy all of its 40 rides, shows and attractions as LEGOLAND Malaysia opens to the public. The first international theme park in Malaysia spans 76 acres. Future plans are already in place for LEGOLAND Malaysia to be the largest family destination resort in Southeast Asia with a Water Park and Hotel already under construction for opening in 2013 and 2014.
LEGOLAND® Malaysia has been created as an ideal environment for a whole day of family fun. Both interactive and educational, the attractions are developed to be enjoyed by adults and children together to create an opportunity for families to bond over play time. For the LEGO® fan, the Park will be the ultimate LEGO “clubhouse.”
Strategically located at the heart of the rapidly developing Iskandar region, the Park is accessible to both local and international visitors. The excellent transportation network enables visitors from Singapore to arrive within 10 minutes from the Tuas Second Link by road and 45 minutes from Changi Airport. Similarly, the North-South Expressway provides easy access for local travellers.
“It’s incredible to see Asia’s first LEGOLAND® Park come to life. This is an amazing theme park for families to enjoy,” says John Jakobsen, Managing Director of LEGOLAND Parks for Merlin Entertainments. “We share our partners’ vision for the area in creating a hub for international theme park entertainment. LEGOLAND Malaysia is truly unique and together with the accessibility to Johor, Singapore and the rest of Southeast Asia we believe LEGOLAND Malaysia will be a great success.”
Jakobsen adds, “Merlin Entertainments hosts 46 million visitors each year in 21 different countries worldwide. We are excited to bring our experience and dedication to Malaysia and look forward to growing LEGOLAND® Malaysia as a major family resort destination.”
Opening activities will get underway with a performance from the Billund Marching Band, flown in especially from the original LEGOLAND® Park in Denmark. Before the turnstiles swing into operation, Siegfried Boerst, General Manager of LEGOLAND Malaysia, will give a welcome address.
“Because LEGOLAND® Malaysia provides the most popular rides and attractions from LEGOLAND Parks around the world, it is a truly world class experience,” says Boerst. “The Park is tailored to the local environment. Everything from food to landscaping caters to the local tastes and climate. This will be a landmark day for everyone who’s worked to make LEGOLAND possible here in Malaysia.”
LEGOLAND® Malaysia family theme park is owned by Themed Attractions and Resorts Sdn Bhd (TAR), Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) and Merlin Entertainments Group and is operated by Merlin Entertainments.
“Themed Attractions is excited and proud to play our part in successfully developing our country’s first international theme park, LEGOLAND® Malaysia,” says Tunku Dato’ Ahmad Burhanuddin, Managing Director and CEO of Themed Attractions and Resorts Sdn. Bhd. “We are confident that the presence of LEGOLAND in Nusajaya will further elevate its position as the region’s destination hub and increase its appeal among the global community. LEGOLAND Malaysia will be a catalyst for further development in Nusajaya, contributing to the development of businesses and surrounding communities. We believe the impact of LEGOLAND Malaysia will resonate further than just being a leisure destination but will be an achievement that Malaysians can be proud of.” 🙂 – Travel Feeder, your ultimate travel photo blog
