Aintree

Getting to Aintree is quite direct once you know the routes and plan ahead, as there will be thousands like you visiting that week. Aintree is just on the perimeter of Liverpool, a mile from M57 & M58 motorways, linking the M62 & M6. If you are driving, take the A59 to Liverpool and towards the racecourse you’ll be directed to the car parks.

If you’re thinking of flying into Liverpool for the races, the nearest airport is the John Lennon Airport, being about 20 minutes drive to the racecourse. Alternatively, you can go by bus to Liverpool South Parkway Merseyrail station and then get a train to Aintree. If you’re flying to Mancheste, you can do the journey in about 45 minutes by car/bus.

Betting on the Grand National Race

If you are familiar with horse racing and betting on the races, you’ll know that each horse has a name, a jockey with unique colours, a race number, some information about the horses previous wins/performances and then the odds for the horse based on who is in the race, all of the above mentioned, and the betting demand from the punters, who think the horse will win. If you are not attending Aintree, you can check out the latest Aintree Racecourse results and odds at William Hill. The Grand National is a world-famous Race and according to historical statistics, the race was first held in 1839 but is started off two hours late over confusion surrounding weighing procedures. Ironically, the 5-1 favourite, Lottery won the race!

If you’re new to the race track, be patient in getting your bet(s) placed. It’s going to seem like carnage at the bookies there, with people shouting back and forth. Just have your cash ready and get the bookie’s attention. The Gold Cup will have everyone frantically placing bets. Don’t blow all your money and don’t listen to any tips, it’s a lottery at the end of the day. Some horse will fall, some will drop out before the start, some will look like they’re going to win but then drop off in the final furlong.

A Day for the Ladies

Racing brings not only the men to the betting ring but equally, the ladies to accompany them, especially for Ladies Day. Friday 13th April will be the date this year. A day where the fillies are getting ready for the race and the ladies are getting ready to impress, to smile for the paparazzi and to compete themselves for the annual Style Award. Dress to impress, bring your best hat, get your make up on and enjoy the fashion ladies!

Go easy on the drink, especially if you are not eating much throughout the day. Do your research on some of the horses and pick one or two, without losing your shirt or blouse in your bet. And remember, if you are flying back, remember to get to the airport on time. Enjoy. – Travel Feeder
