Travel snapshot – The Sistine Chapel Ceiling fresco
This is a snapshot I took silently in the Sistine Chapel, Vatican Museum. Not the wall, not the sculpture. What I snapped was the ceiling! Yes, one of the best ceiling fresco in man kind history, The Sistine Chapel ceiling is the creation of one of the greatest artist cum sculptor in Renaissance era, Michelangelo. There are totally 9 scenes from the Book Of Genesis being recorded here through mural painting. Among others, the most famous section of the ceiling is definitely “The Creation of Adam” with The God and Adam pointing finger to each other (it translates how the god passed over lives to Adam).
Some EXIF info: Photo taken with my Nikon D60 and my old Tamron SP10-24mm Ultra Wide Angle lens. Shutter speed 1/10s and Aperture F3.5. Focus distance was set to 10mm (with both left and right sides being cropped out). ISO 400. Auto White Balance. No flash fired and -2/3 stop of Exposure Value being compensated with Matrix metering.
This is a large photo. I managed to snap a reasonably sharp image with a slow 0.1 second shutter speed thanks to the Ultra Wide Angle lens attached. Click the photo to view it in full size in my Flickr page. Taking photos within the Sistine Chapel is prohibited. I took this shot just before the guard spotted me! 🙂 There are more photos taken within the Vatican Museum during my visit to Vatican and Rome. Love the shot – you were able to capture a lot in a single frame! I was so disappointed how they hurried us through the Sistine Chapel though – wish I had more time in there.
