A Big 10 For Tenerife!
Guest Post by Hannah Copues
I have two priorities when it comes to booking a holiday! With an eye for a bargain, and tradition and class being a necessity, this combination often makes the perfect destination hard to find. Yes, I do have high standards and expectations considering my choosy preferences and parsimonious nature. However, if your friends have rooted out what they say is the, “perfect destination” and invited you along on the trip, would you say no? I had nothing to lose! They were taking a risk, seeing as my track record for constant whinging on previous trips was not as seamless as I’d have liked, but nevertheless, they were stuck with me. So it was Peurto de la Cruz here I come!
Rather sceptical about the coming event, I spent most of the lead up to the holiday in a state of regret for committing myself to the trip. However, I hold up the white flag and can honestly admit that Tenerife did not fail to impress. I was drawn to the distinct Canarian charm and traditional feel which characterised the Old town from the off. Admittedly, I did expect to discover the stereotypical pub/club culture that seems to plague most of the popular tourist resorts in the 21st century. Yet, the girls and I became regular attendees at some of the quaintest, welcoming and beautiful colonial style café’s and bars I’ve ever been accustomed to. There’s nothing wrong getting drunk in style!
I’m no animal lover, but I was even transformed in these respects. As much as we fell in love with our relaxing rendezvous on the beach, spending hours lazing about in the blazing sunshine, an exciting excursion to Loro Prague (Animal Adventure Park) provided a great sense of diversity to our trip. Watching each other swimming with the orca, dolphins and sea lions delivered us with the best comedy and photo album Facebook has ever seen. Michael Mcintyre better watch out! All jokes aside, the sandy beach of Playa Jardín, the beautiful Jardin Botánico and Parque Taoro are great places I recommend you go to relax.
A passion for fashion, we returned to Britain ten times the fashion models we left out as (I wish) and our suitcases 10 kg heavier! The narrow cobbled streets don’t just stage as perfect venues for moonlit walks, but hold some of the most high-end boutiques of our time. For all you ladies lucky to be swept away by your partner, you won’t even need to hear a sigh or whimper at any point in the trip. Whilst you shop till you drop, he can entertain himself in the Lago Martianez Waterpark. Feel the need for speed? Get set to enjoy some of the fastest and thrilling waterslides and rides. Whilst I savoured the more relaxing elements of the trip, the girls never failed to find me bathing in the chilled salt pools and the sub-tropical gardens. An experience for all!
Whether you want a romantic break, a fun-filled week with the lads or girls or a typical family holiday, Puerto de la Cruz is a great holiday destination for the discerning traveller (that’s me) looking for tranquillity and culture. Tenerife certainly got an ambitious 10 out of 10 from me! 🙂 – Travel Feeder
