KLIA2 photos showing the new benchmark as an international LCC hub
KLIA2 has finally started its operation since last Friday, 2nd May 2014. Besides Airasia which set to start from 9th May 2014, 5 airlines have started their low cost flight operations in the new airport. Measuring 257,000 m² in terminal size, the new international Low Cost Carrier hub, KLIA2, is capable of handling approximately 45 Million passengers annually, which is 3 times of what the phasing out LCCT with 64,067 m² in size can handle currently.
From 9th May 2014 next week, the old LCCT terminal will become history and all low cost flight operations will take place in the new KLIA2 terminal. Located only 2km away from KLIA (the full fledged international airport of Kuala Lumpur), KLIA is in fact closer to KLIA than the old LCCT, and is also connected with KLIA by an extension rail route of Express Rail Link.
KLIA2 has also its own and new runway as opposed to LCCT which uses the existing KLIA runways. Read more information of KLIA2 on its official website
One of the worst experiences of taking Airaisa flights from LCCT is the shortages of F&B and duty free shopping outlets in the terminal. Not anymore. The new KLIA2 provides 32,000 m² of retail spaces with over 200 outlets in the new Gateway@KLIA2, which is arguably the largest of its kind in the world.
I had an opportunity to visit KLIA2 prior to its official operation date of 2nd May 2014. Here are some of the notable KLIA2 photos taken in and around the terminal and its Gateway@klia2 shopping malls. Hope you can have an initial feel of it.
