Travel Snapshot – Penang Island panorama

If you wish to get a clear view of Penang Island, one of the best viewing point is none other than Penang Hill, or Bukit Bendera (in Malaysian language). Raising 833m up above sea level, Penang Hill is the highest and most developed hill resort in Penang, about 6km from city centre George Town. When the weather is good, visitors can expect a great panorama view of George Town and Penang Bridge, either day or night.

Some EXIF info: Captured with Nikon D7000 and Nikkor 18-105mm lens attached. Additional Hoya Pro-1D CPL filter was deployed. Shot in Program Auto mode, with Shutter speed 1/200 sec. Aperture f7.1. Focus distance was set to 18mm. Auto ISO 100. Auto White Balance. No flash fired and No exposure value being compensated with Matrix metering.

I took this Penang Island panorama shot 10 days ago when I celebrated New Year in Penang Island. It was my first time riding the new funicular train up to the summit. I failed to travel up to the summit during my previous visit to Penang due to reconstruction of the funicular railway.

The relatively cooler weather at the summit was preferred by the British during their time in Malaysia in 18th century, and developed it into a hill escape away from the hustle and bustle in George Town and its surrounding areas. If you are staying in one of the Penang hotels and planning to visit the UNESCO Heritage site in Northern Malaysia, make sure to take a short trip to Penang Hill for a cup of British high tea and superb view of the beautiful Penang island and its coast line. 🙂  – Travel Feeder, the ultimate travel photo blog.
