CNNGo tell us the top 10 countries to have the best food
CNNGo published an article recently listing down the top 10 countries in the world to have the best food around. There are mix responses with some couldn’t agree more on the list while others suggested different listing. It is normal for people to vote differently as we all have our own preferences. There is no one single dish that can satisfy everyone’s cravings, not to mention a bunch of different dishes from any nation. That said, we have to admit and respect these 10 countries with the highest votes that they are truly marvelous in choices of great food they have to offer.
Before arguing on the result, why not visiting those countries one day and tasting all of the good foods before we judge? Here are the top 10 countries to have the best food as recommended by CNNGo:
1) Italy
When we talk about Italy, we would certainly think of their Italy pizza, spaghetti bolognaise, Italian coffee and Gelato. Italian food is so popular among travelers and it is arguably the best in the world. It is one of the main reasons why I love my visit to Italy and always wish to go back there again. The simple and healthy cooking style of Italian cuisine is most welcomed by health conscious travelers especially ladies on diet.
2) China
Many travelers may think China has the best food of all countries. I couldn’t agree more. China has such a huge varieties of Chinese regional cuisines such as Hokkien, Cantonnese, Hakka, Sichuan and others that one will have difficulties to sample them all. Among the popular dishes, Beijing Roast duck, Shanghai Xiaolongbao, Hong Kong dim sum and Sichuan hot pot are always my favourite delicacies in China. Check out some of my travel experience in Beijing and Shanghai.
3) France
We need to know other than Bordeaux wines, France has some great food too. The most popular french food are Escargot, Macarons, Baguette and crepes. They are normally small in portion but not cheap in price. Normal travelers would need to burn holes in their pocket in order to taste the authentic French cuisine especially in tourists destinations. Check out my travel stories in Paris.
4) Spain
I would put Spanish food higher than French food as I think they fetch a more reasonable price but are equally good. Spanish food has more varieties too. You really need enough times to sample all the Tapas menu. For travelers on the go, Jamon ham sandwich is always a great choice. I visited Barcelona last year and tried their Paella seafood rice which is one of the top local cuisine.
5) Japan
Need we say more? I love Japanese food so much that I have decided to visit Japan once more this fall to taste them again! In my opinion, Japanese food is one of the most healthy cuisine of all. They prefer simple flavoring in their cooking in order to retain as much original taste as possible. Japanese dishes include sushi, sashimi, donbori, wagyu beef, Hokkaido crabs are all my favourites! Check out my list of top Japanese foods to try.
6) India
Eventhough I have not been to India, tasting some of their food is not impossible as many of the popular Indian food include Dosai, nan, paratha, curry and chai can be found in Indian restaurants operated all over the world. I love Indian food a lot but still haven’t had the courage to visit India in person.
7) Greece
As CNNGo said, “Traveling and eating in Greece feels like a glossy magazine spread come to life, but without the Photoshopping. Like the blue seas and white buildings, the kalamata olives, feta cheese, the colorful salads and roast meats are all postcard perfect by default.” I haven’t been to Greece before but their delicacies such as Spanakopita and Gyros do make me feel like going on my next trip to Europe. 🙂
8) Thailand
“Thais fit spicy, sour, salty, sweet, chewy, crunchy and slippery into one dish. With influences from China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar and a royal culinary tradition, Thai cuisine is the best of many worlds.” Very much familiar to us in neighboring Malaysia, Thai food is always one of Asian favourite cuisine. I personally love their Tom Yam soup, fried noodle, and even their fragrant white rice. Check out my travel experience in Phuket, Thailand for more stories.
9) Mexico
I have never been to Mexico but Mexican foods include Tacos al pastor, the spit-roast pork taco, and Tamales, an ancient Mayan food of masa cooked in a leaf wrapping, look mouth-watering to me. I will definitely try them if my itchy travel feet step on the American continent ground one day!
10) United States
What can we think of when one mentions about American food? Burger! Do you love it? Sure! Will it make you to visit U.S. one day? Not quite. I would rather spare some bottles of beer on the Miami beach! 🙂
This is the list.
If you have also noticed, the top countries to have the best foods are normally the top holiday destinations as well. It shows that local cuisines of a country plays an important role in attracting foreign visitors to travel to that country. This is too simple to understand. We travel not only to see but to eat too! I can’t imagine how we could enjoy our travel if we hate the food there. I have visited 6 out of 10 countries above, and their great local food had truly completed my immaculate holidays!
How many countries in the above list you have visited before and tasted their food?
If there is 11th country in the list, I reckon it would be Malaysia. I couldn’t stop my mouth from watering thinking of the fantastic local food in Ipoh and Penang! 🙂 – Travel Feeder, the ultimate travel photo blog
