Travel snapshot – The Congress Column in Brussels
This is a photo snapped on my travel to Brussels last year. It is a monument named the Congress Column built in the 19th century in commemorating the formation of the Belgian state and constitution by the National Congress in 1830-1831. A rare 47m high Roman styled monument stood in close proximity to the large Brussels Park and the royal palace, The Congress Column is less frequented by tourist especially those in a packaged tour to Brussels.
Some EXIF info: Photo taken with my Nikon D7000 and Tamron SP10-24mm Ultra Wide Angle lens. Shot in Program Auto mode, with Shutter speed 1/250 Sec and Aperture f8.0. Focus distance was set to 11mm. ISO 100. Auto White Balance. No flash fired and no exposure being compensated with Matrix metering. Post edited with Adobe Photoshop Element 8.
I was lucky to have spotted this beautiful monument when strolling down streets after streets in Brussels. It would not be possible if I were to join a package tour to Brussels and this is why I always recommend self-guided travel or Free and Independent Travel (FIT) as the best option to travel Europe. And FIT is how we can explore a city to its fullest or go off the beaten track. If you are keen to plan a budget trip to Europe, follow my project of a planning guide to Europe travel.
