Travel Photo – Luoyang Longmen Grottoes art carving
Whenever friends asked me about Luoyang, I could talk forever! There are so much fun we had in Luoyang that words simply cannot describe. I know I still owe you the complete travel story of my trip to Luoyang. Get me a rain check on it! 🙂 For the time being, let me show you a photo which was taken on the Longmen West Hill, showcasing the UNESCO World Heritage site of Longmen Grottoes art carving, with the beautiful Yi river and the East Hill in the background.
Captured with Nikon D7000 and Nikkor 10-24mm ultra wide angle lens attached. Photographed in Program Auto mode, with Shutter speed 1/80 sec. Aperture f4.5. Focus distance was set to 24mm. Auto ISO 100. Auto White Balance. No flash fired and No exposure value being compensated with Matrix metering. Post processed with Photoshop Elements 8.0.
Longmen Grottoes is one single attraction that made me booked a 2-hour high speed train ride to Luoyang from downtown Xian. It worth every penny! In fact, there are much much more to explore in Luoyang than just Longmen Grottoes. The people, the food and off course other attractions such as the Shaolin Temple, are all great to explore.
Housing stone carving Buddhist arts of over 100,000 statues from a few inches to hundred feet, Longmen Grottoes had gone through various vandalism during the ancient Chinese history as well as the Second Sino-Japanese War. As the result, if you could notice from the above photo, most the head of Buddhist statues had been destroyed.
